I installed Admiralty TotalTide and only have access to the sample ports and streams.

You need to enter the Start-Up Key supplied by your Admiralty Distributor. If the CD was supplied without a Start-Up Key, you should contact your Distributor to purchase a Start-Up Key.

From the TotalTide toolbar select File - Licence Key Wizard, select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard - Add Key screen and enter the key details. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V) when entering key details. If an error has been made when entering the key the Licence Key Wizard - Unable to add Keys screen will be displayed. If this happens the key needs to be re-entered correctly.

Select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard - Start-Up Key Only screen which shows the areas you have licensed and their current expiry date.

If you wish to request an Activation Key now, select the appropriate button and select Next (see below for details); if you wish to exit select Close.

Which Flag State has approved Admiralty Total Tide as covering the carriage requirement?

Please see the Flag State Approval table for this product.

I obtained a Start-Up Key for TotalTide but it expired before I installed the program. How can I obtain an Activation Key?

The Start-Up Key can always be used within TotalTide to obtain an Activation Key, even if the Start-Up Key has expired. However, the Start-Up Key will not allow you to predict tides beyond its 1 month expiry date. You can obtain an Activation Key any time after entering your Start-Up Key - see below.

How do I obtain an Activation Key by email?

From the TotalTide toolbar select File - Licence Key Wizard to display the Licence Key Wizard - Start-Up Key Onlyscreen. Select the Request an Activation Key button and select Next.

The Licence Key Wizard - Main or Backup Computer screen is displayed showing your computer name. Select the MAIN computer button and select Next.

The Licence Key Wizard - Create Activation Key Request screen is displayed; select the Email icon and this will generate an email which is addressed to TotalTide@ukho.gov.uk. In the subject line there will be a string of letters and numbers beginning with UKHOAKR…... Do not amend any of this at all. Just click on the Send button. You will receive an automated email back with details of your Activation Key.

How do I install my Activation Key?

From the TotalTide toolbar select File - Licence Key Wizard to display the Licence Key Wizard - Start-Up Key Only screen. Select the Add an Activation Key button and select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard - Add Key screen and enter the key details. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V) when entering key details. If an error has been made when entering the key the Licence Key Wizard - Unable to add Keys screen will be displayed - if this happens the key needs to be re-entered correctly. If the key still fails it may be because there has been a change to the hardware configuration - see below for further details.

Select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard - Activated screen which shows the Licensed Areas. Select Close to finish.

The PC on which I am going to run TotalTide does not have email facilities. How can I obtain my Activation Key?

From the Licence Key Wizard - Create Activation Key Request screen you can choose the option Send the Request to your Printer or Save the Request to a simple text file. You can then manually type your Activation Key request into the subject line of an email on another PC and send it to TotalTide@ukho.gov.uk or copy and paste it from a floppy disc into the subject line of an email and send it. The Activation Key will be returned to the email address that sent in the Activation Key Request. Alternatively you can send the Activation Key request details to your Admiralty Distributor.

How do I obtain my Activation Key for my back-up PC?

Load the latest version of TotalTide on your back-up PC. Use the Licence Key Wizard to enter your Start-Up Key then generate an Activation Key request from this machine, ensuring that BACKUP computer has been selected.

Can TotalTide be installed on a networked PC?

TotalTide may not be installed centrally on a network server. It can however be installed on the local hard drive of a machine which is linked to a network. If the PC is also a server, the programme cannot be accessed via a different PC which has the server mapped as a drive. The software is ‘tied’ to the PC on which it is loaded and can only be accessed on this machine.

My computer has been replaced/upgraded, how do I re-install TotalTide?

Load the latest version of TotalTide on your PC. Use the Licence Key Wizard to insert your original Start-Up Key and generate a new Activation Key request from this machine, ensuring that either MAIN or BACKUP computer has been selected.

Under normal conditions, your request will be scrutinised and authorised within a few minutes, and a replacement Activation Key automatically generated and emailed back to you.

Occasionally, Activation Key requests may be refused by the UKHO – if this happens you will need to contact either your Admiralty Distributor or the UKHO Helpdesk - helpdesk@ukho.gov.uk - explaining the situation and enclosing either your Start-Up Key, Activation Key, Update Key or User Permit and Computer Name.

My TotalTide program was working fine but now it won't work at all. I have an Activation Key but I have a message saying that the key cannot be decoded correctly.

When you generate an Activation Key Request, this captures hardware details about the host PC which locks the Activation Key to the PC. If you have made any changes to your hardware or changed your PC since the generation of your Activation Key request, this will invalidate your Activation Key. Use the Licence Key Wizard to generate a new Activation Key request from this machine, ensuring that either MAIN or BACKUP computer has been selected.

Under normal conditions, your request will be scrutinised and authorised within a few minutes, and a replacement Activation Key automatically generated and emailed back to you.

Occasionally, Activation Key requests may be refused by the UKHO. If this happens you will need to contact either your Admiralty Distributor or the UKHO Helpdesk - helpdesk@ukho.gov.uk - explaining the situation and enclosing either your Start-Up Key, Activation Key, Update Key or User Permit and Computer Name.

If you are running a MAIN and a BACK UP system, ensure that the correct key is used on the correct PC.

I am using TotalTide 2001/2002/2003/2004 and want to the latest version. How do I do this?

Note: With effect from the 2005 version of TotalTide which is now annualised (i.e. it has a 12 month licence), there is no facility to use previously purchased Area Data sets with the 2005 version.

Also the Area data sets have also been re-named to reflect the same numbers used within ARCS and ADLL as follows:

Old Versions: 2005 and 2006 Versions:
Area 1 Areas 1-4
Area 2 Area 10
Area 3 Area 5
Area 4 Area 6
Area 5 Area 7
Area 6 Area 8
Area 7 Area 9

To upgrade, you need to give your Admiralty Distributor your User Permit number and he will arrange this for you. On either your MAIN or BACK UP system go to the TotalTide toolbar, select File - Update Key Wizard, select Purchase a key to enable more areas or to update existing areas and select Next to view. This displays your User Permit with the option to print or save to floppy disc. Your Distributor will also need to know which Area Data Sets you require. He will send in a request for an Update Key for you, and you will receive a new CD ROM together with your Update Key(s). Note that separate keys will automatically be supplied for both the MAIN and the BACK UP systems.

To install the upgrade, insert the CD and select to un-install the previous version. Run TotalTide and the Licence Key Wizard will start automatically. Select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard - Add Key screen and insert the new Update Key. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V) when inserting Keys.

I want to renew my Area Data Files?

You need to give your Admiralty Distributor your User Permit number and they will arrange this for you. On either your MAIN or BACK UP system go to the ADLL toolbar, select File – Licence Key Wizard, select the button Add Areas/Renew Licence and select Next.

The Licence Key Wizard – User Permit screen is displayed which contains your User Permit, current areas and expiry date. Select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard – Export User Permit with the options to copy to clipboard, print or save to a floppy disc. Provide your Distributor with your User Permit and which Area Data Files you wish to renew. The Distributor will supply you with an Update Key(s). Note that separate keys will automatically be supplied for both the MAIN and the BACK UP systems. To enter the Update Key select File – Licence Key Wizard, select the button Add another Key and select Next. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V) when inserting Keys

How much will it cost me to upgrade to the latest version/ renew my Area Data Files?

Each Area Data Set file costs £58.00.

How do I add extra Area Data Sets to my Licence?

You need to give your Admiralty Distributor your User Permit number and he will arrange this for you. On either your MAIN or BACK UP system go to the TotalTide toolbar, select File - Licence Key Wizard, select the button Add Areas/Renew Licence and select Next.

The Licence Key Wizard - User Permit screen is displayed which contains your User Permit, current areas and expiry date. Select Next to display the Licence Key Wizard - Export User Permit with the options to copy to clipboard, print or save to a floppy disc.

Provide your Distributor with the User Permit and the areas you wish to add, and your Distributor will respond with an Update Key. Note that separate keys will be supplied for both the MAIN and the BACK UP systems. Each additional Area Data Set will cost £58.00.

To enter the Update Key select File - Licence Key Wizard, select the button Add another Key and select Next. A useful tip is to always use Copy and Paste (Ctrl&C/Ctrl&V) when inserting Keys.

If additional Area Data Sets are purchased during the year then the cost will be determined on when the existing licence commenced (all area data sets expire at the same time). If additional areas are purchased during:

months 1-3, the cost is £58

months 4-6, the cost is £43.50

months 7-9, the cost is £29

months 10-12, the cost is £14.50

I have received a new Admiralty TotalTide CD containing new Area Data Sets. What do I do next?

The UKHO is continually updating its worldwide database of harmonic and non-harmonic constants. This database contains over one million tidal constants and in line with the Admiralty Tide Tables, new editions are issued on an annual basis. As part of your subscription service you will be automatically supplied from your Distributor with the latest version as it is released. When you receive the latest version, install the CD in the same way that you installed your original CD. Your current Activation Key will still be valid so you will not have to use the Licence Key Wizard. .

When I open TotalTide my search function on the Menu Bar is ‘greyed out’.

This problem occurs when the List View has been removed. To insert a new List View select Windows - New List from the TotalTide toolbar.

When I open TotalTide I cannot see a List View or a Filter View.

This problem occurs when these Views have been removed. To insert new Views select Windows - New List or New Filter from the TotalTide toolbar.

I wish to send the UKHO Helpdesk a Support Text.

From the TotalTide toolbar select Help - About TotalTide - Support. You will be given a choice of: send an email; save in text file; print the message or copy the message to the clipboard. If possible select the first option. This will generate an email which gives a 'dump' of the registry settings. Forward the email to the UKHO Helpdesk - helpdesk@ukho.gov.uk - with a full description of your problem and they will advise further.

I am using TotalTide from within my ECDIS and the 2007 version no longer works. How can I resolve this?

There is a known ADP/TotalTide installation problem when TotalTide is used in conjunction with an ECDIS. The problem results in the 2007 version of TotalTide failing to communicate with the ECDIS.
To resolve the problem a patch installer has been made available which can be downloaded from the links shown below.
Please ensure that the correct patch is selected – if in doubt as to which version of TotalTide has been installed, run TotalTide and select Help – About Admiralty TotalTide and note the version number.

To install the patch, double-click on the zip file and save the resulting files to a specified location (i.e. desktop). Scroll to this location and double-click on the Windows Installer Patch file (ADP_6_1_0_0.msp or TT_Fleet_6_1_1_0.msp) and follow the on-screen instructions.

Version numbers of TotalTide will be updated to reflect the appropriate patch file used.
